"Arabkir" Medical Center - Institute of Child and Adolescent Health, established in 1997, is one of the largest medical institutions in Armenia and the largest among pediatric clinics. The center has outpatient services, hospital wards, dispensary control and rehabilitation services, serving hundreds of thousands of patients annually, the majority of which are children. The medical center has a many-years’ experience of hosting international volunteers for short (international summer workcamps) and long term (ESC volunteers). The staff of the Medical Center is well experienced in working with the volunteers and providing them with a rich learning experience.
The main aim of the project is to work with in-patient children, to educate and train them according to the state school program as well as in the self-support programs. In order to reach to these aims the volunteer should be involved in all daily programs and also should realize his/her own ideas and suggestions within the general aim. The outcome for the children is a complete integration into the back-to-school step after the hospitalization. Volunteer’s involvement includes in-class activities and out class activities when possible for children.
The volunteer will work 5 days per week (from Monday till Friday), in total 25 working hours. For the successful management of volunteer's work there will be regular meetings with the project supervisor and weekly reflection meetings with the volunteer's mentor. A separate part of the “Arabkir” Medical Center hospital school are the handicraft workshops which have twofold effect on the children: 1. Development of motor-skills in different age groups. 2. Orientation in the future profession. The next possibility for the volunteer can be the organization of the English language courses for children. The volunteer can be also involved in organization of different festivals, celebrations and national holidays which are the part of the hospital school program in “Arabkir” Medical Center.
